Most "grass-fed" beef you see in stores is grain-finished - meaning the cattle spent their last months in a feedlot eating grain to fatten up quickly. Our cattle eat only grass and forage their entire lives.
This matters for nutrition, for flavor, and for the animals. Grass-finished beef has more omega-3s, more CLA, and a richer, more complex taste. It's leaner, more mineral-dense, and raised the way cattle were meant to eat.

What is the difference between grass-fed and grass-finished beef?
Grass-fed means the cattle ate grass at some point in their lives, while grass-finished means they ate only grass and forage for their entire lives, right up to harvest. Beef from Ripple Run Farms is both grass-fed and grass-finished, with no grain finishing at any stage.
Can I buy a half or whole cow from Ripple Run Farms?
Ripple Run Farms offers Quarter, Half, and Whole Beef Shares in finite one-animal allocations. Check the Bulk Orders page for current availability; individual grass-fed beef cuts remain available in the farm store every day. Half and whole Heritage Gloucester Old Spot hog packages can also be ordered with a deposit on the Bulk Orders page.
Does Ripple Run Farms vaccinate its animals?
No. Every animal at Ripple Run Farms, including the chickens, pigs, cattle, and turkeys, is raised without vaccines, without synthetic hormones, and without GMO feed.
Can I still buy grass-fed beef at Ripple Run Farms?
Yes! We have 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef available in our farm store every single day, 8am–8pm. Individual cuts - ground beef, steaks, roasts, and more - are in our freezer right now. Current bulk-share availability is shown live on the Bulk Orders page.
When will bulk beef shares be available again?

Why is grass-finished beef more nutritious?
Grass-finished beef has significantly higher omega-3 fatty acids, more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and higher levels of vitamins E and A compared to grain-finished beef. It's also leaner, with a more complex, mineral-rich flavor.
